Recovery Support Service
Eating Disorders Victoria acknowledges that the needs of a person with an eating disorder and those of their family members, friends and partners are as individual as the people themselves.
EDV has support officers and support groups for both the person suffering from the eating disorder and their family, friends and partners.
- Are you pre-occupied with food or your body image?
- Have you recently been diagnosed with an eating disorder?
- Are you recovered but feel like you are slipping back into old habits?
Recovery Support Officer
Our Recovery Support Officer provides advice, guidance and suggestions to people at all stages of recovery from an eating disorder – whether you are first acknowledging you have an eating disorder and need to know what to do next, are experiencing a relapse and need help to get back on the recovery pathway, or feel you are well on the way to being recovered from an eating disorder but you’re in need of some fresh ideas and encouragement to maintain your progress.
To arrange a face to face or telephone appointment with the Recovery Support Officer, please contact The Eating Disorders Victoria Helpline on 1300 550 236 or email help@eatingdisorders.org.au. Appointments are free and confidential. Due to limited funding, sessions are limited to one per person at their given stage of recovery.
Feedback from clients of our Recovery Support Officer:
"I can't wait to put the suggestions into practice and follow up on further help/support out there. I've felt so alone for years. Not anymore. Thank you."
"The sense of satisfaction I got out of the session was remarkable because never have I been able to open up to someone, or to talk freely to someone about all that I am going through. With Natalie, I now know that there is nothing wrong with reaching out for help. Thanks."
"Just continue to be there for girls like me who may, at times feel alone and vulnerable because it means the world to have someone other than family to reach out to and help you work through your problem."
"Amazing, uplifting, supportive and a great sense of relief to have someone to talk to that really understands."
Kickstart Your Recovery
Kickstart Your Recovery is a 6-week (2 hour/ session) semi-structured skills-based learning program, developed by EDV to assist people who are recovering from an eating disorder to build confidence in their ability to overcome their disorder. Kickstart your Recovery is not therapy and does not require a clinician’s referral, but provides psycho-social support and skills.
The program looks at self-acceptance, body image, perfectionism, and how to be flexible and more relaxed around food and eating, and is bookended by sessions surveying past and future paths to recovery.

Recovery Support Groups
Support groups provide an opportunity for information sharing, increased understanding and peer support. They allow people to discuss and share their lived experience and emotions and develop new strategies in a safe and supportive environment. Support groups are not therapy sessions, but rather an opportunity to receive and provide support to others in a similar situation. They provide empathy, understanding and hope for those whose lives are affected by an eating disorder.
Eating Disorders Victoria provides a number of Recovery Support Groups for people with an eating disorder who have already taken steps toward recovery.
