A Girl Called Tim
by June Alexander
(Reviewed by Tracey and Veronica De Poi)
June Alexander’s memoir A Girl Called Tim is the story of her struggle with and recovery from a forty year struggle with an eating disorder.
A very personal book, it shows that recovery from an eating disorder is possible even after many decades of illness and offers hope to older sufferers. At times overly graphic in detail, the writing of the book was evidently very cathartic for June. Much of the book focuses on her in the depths of her illness and one can’t help wishing that there was more time devoted to her journey towards recovery. One wonders if that was due to the editing of the book. This easy to read book offers hope to those older sufferers who are often forgotten.
