Get Real

media_killing_us_softly

We understand that everyone is REAL (all you need to do is pinch yourself to know that)!

We also realise that at times it can be difficult to 'be yourself' when surrounded by images that have been digitally altered; messages that criticise individuals for cellulite, dress choice, the way their child is raised, what they have done and what they haven't! The media presents ideas that often don't measure up and and ideals that promise happiness and wealth.

GET REAL aims to make you aware of the impact the media can have on the way we feel about our bodies, our ideas of beauty and the choices we make.

Now, we all know how boring it would be if we were all the same, but instead of just saying it we need to act like we believe it!

Instead of accepting what we see on the catwalks and in glossy mags, we should be celebrating our real bodies.

Now we have come to a time where many people are looking to celebrate the unique differences and are embracing all types of beauty. Ultimately, people are looking toward unique features to define perceptions of beauty and change the stereotypical view of what represents the “perfect” body.

By celebrating and positively talking about everyone’s differences, there can be a positive change in the way people see themselves.

If there can be a widespread move to looking at our unique features in a positive light, there may be a shift in the level of people having an unhealthy body image and low self-esteem.

Check out Lisa Preece's poem I Wouldn't Change A Thing - we think it captures the importance of staying true to yourself and your values;)
