The Eating Disorders Helpline

The Eating Disorders Helpline provides information, guidance and support to anyone whose life is affected by an eating disorder, body image issues or disordered eating. The Eating Disorders Helpline is the first point of contact with support, guidance, information and referrals for thousands of people with an eating disorder and their families, partners and friends.
The Eating Disorders Helpline operates at different times in each state*. Please note: opening times for the Helpline will vary according to state and local time - please visit the appropriate website to find out details of opening times in your state. Callers from NSW may wish to note that NSW has its own helpline service provided by the Butterfly Foundation NSW office (formerly the Eating Disorders Foundation of NSW).
The Eating Disorders Helpline is staffed by well-trained voluntary advisors who understand the difficulties associated with eating disorders, supervised by our Volunteer Services Coordinator.
Your call is very important to us and we endeavour to respond immediately to all calls. However if you call at a time when we are on a high volume of calls, or outside our Helpline operating hours, you may receive the answering service. We encourage you to leave a message so we can return your call promptly. We will always try to return calls within one working day. In order to protect your privacy and confidentiality, when returning your call we never say where we are calling from, and we will not leave a message on a landline answering machine. Thus, if you haven’t heard back from us within one day, it means we were unable to contact you directly. In this case, we will try again, or please give us another call.
*The Eating Disorders Helpline is currently a shared service for three state-based eating disorder support services: Eating Disorders Victoria, the Eating Disorders Association (QLD) and ACEDA (SA) – formerly the Eating Disorders Association of South Australia. This means that when you call the Helpline from Victoria, Queensland or South Australia, your call will be transferred and answered by one of the association in your state. Calls from other states are answered in Victoria. Wherever possible we will provide immediate assistance. The Eating Disorders Helpline is also endorsed by the Bridges Association in WA; referral calls for WA are currently answered in Victoria.
